President Jeff Furest led our March 3 meeting that started at 12:17 p.m. Louise Rallis was selected to lead the Pledge. Amanda Oparka led the Rotarians on the reciting of “The Four-Way Test.” Sarah Lee did the invocation and asked for blessings for the people of Ukraine, all of our Rotarians and our speaker Kim Meltzer. Our buffet lunch included rolls, green beans, roasted potatoes, Italian sausage with peppers and onions, Caesar salad and cream puffs for dessert.

 

 

 

No club business, however Jeff mentioned that Scott Chabot is heading up the fundraising committee and the met prior to the meeting. The “Sock Hop” will be held on May 13 at Zuccaro’s.

Sam Wireman introduced our visitors. We had potential new member Vita Simmons and our speaker Clinton Township Clerk Kim Meltzer.

 

 

BIRTHDAYS & ANNIVERSARIES

Pulling double duty today Sam also announced Birthdays and Anniversaries. Cecilia Moloney had a birthday this week. No partner birthdays. There were four club anniversaries Mary Spaulding - 35 years, Keith Lesperance - 22 years, Bob Lee - 30 years and Eric Pierson - 14 years.

Scott Chabot bought a flower for Ken Steele for setting up, Bob Cannon bought a flower for our speaker Kim Meltzer, Ken Steele bought a flower for our potential new member Vita. Ted DeVantier bought a flower for Amanda Oparka for doing the bulletin today.

Scott Chabot was fined $2 because Jeff started the meeting two minutes late and the president cannot be fined. Kathleen Best and Scott Chabot were fined for recent vacations St. Martin ($3) and Disney ($3). Sam Wireman was fined for double dipping on the lunch buffet and for wearing his company name on his shirt as advertisement. Tom Welsh was fined $1. Jesse Johnson was fined $1 for not eating green beans. Everyone not wearing a pin was fined $1.

 

 

SPEAKERS/PROGRAM/RAFFLE WINNER

Our speaker was Clinton Township Clerk Kim Meltzer she discussed what clerks do, and upcoming elections, and recent changes to the voting process. Clerks are in charge of executing elections, keeping documents for the township. They are the secretariat to the governing body, lobby legislature for bills that comply with ballot initiatives and public concerns. Since 2018 there have been some ballot changes which include eight voting policies. The secret ballot, military and overseas voting, auditing of elections results. Register for mail-in voting deadline is 15 days, automatic registration at Secretary of State, same-day voter registration, and straight ticket voting.
