President Sarah Lee called the meeting to order.
We started with the Pledge of Alliance and national anthem led by Elizabeth Wilson, then “The Four-Way Test” led by Malachi. Bob Lee gave the invocation.
We enjoyed another first rate lunch; baked chicken in a lemon parmesan gravy, roasted potatoes, green beans, an antipasto salad, rolls, and funnel cakes for dessert. What is a funnel cake? Think glazed donuts shaped like short straws.
SARAH STARTED WITH SOME CLUB BUSINESS
- She reported that the club did not fare well at the inter-service club horseshoe challenge. Diana Djokic gave the best showing, she and Nancy D winning a couple of matches. Malachi Taylor and Joe C did not fare as well. Our club came in last behind the other service clubs.
-
- Sarah reported that the September 17 club meeting will be devoted to a service project, assembling packages for a charity.
-
- Next week’s meeting will host the District Governor, no meeting on September 3, Labor day weekend or on the 10th; that’s the golf outing.
ERIC DO-IT-ALL PIERSON INTRODUCED THE GUESTS
We welcomed Sarah Carter Wallace, our speaker, and Abbey Gallagher, her traveling photographer.
Eric gave birthday flowers to Malachi and then to Tom Welsh for his wife’s birthday.
Other flowers went to Tina from Gary Felts, President Sarah from Ken Steele, Jeri Hunley from Gary, Malachi bought a flower for each of our guests and Larry Neal bought the last one for Joe C.
LARRY NEAL CONTINUED WITH THE MUSIC
After a rough going last week, Larry came up big with “It’s a Small World,” complete with verses split between the men and women, and then “Roll Rotary.”
ANNOUNCEMENTS
Eric reminded the club that the annual Pierson Golf Outing is Thursday September 10. Lunch will be served at 11:30 and shotgun start at 12:30. Come for lunch; it counts as our regular meeting.
ERIC GOT ON WITH RECOGNITION
First he complimented Larry for the music today and the fined his table-mates $1 each.
Apparently at the start of the meeting Eric was asking members for anything he could use for recognition. Eric then fined everyone whose response was “I got nuthin.”
Malachi and Joe C were recognized for their horseshoe efforts even though they were shown up by the women. Nancy said that Diana threw four ringers.
Tom Welsh payed for a golf outing, Ted missed a belt loop and Bob Lee paid $3 for the return of his stolen eyeglasses.
MALACHI INTRODUCED TODAY’S SPEAKER, SARAH CARTER WALLACE

Sarah is a local resident, born and raised in Macomb County. She is a new author, working on her first book. The book, titled “Macomb Gardens and Green Spaces” is planned for release next spring. It will be a full color coffee table-sized production with high definition photos of gardens and green spaces around the county. She is self publishing this project.
These green spaces will include local family gardens, public parks, businesses and community gardens. The photos are accompanied by 35 stories resulting from Sarah’s interviews with the local residents about their own green spaces.
Sarah talked about her passion for gardens and public beauty and her wish to share and connect with residents through this book. It’s a celebration of average people making beautiful spaces. She hopes the book will increase pride in our community and encourage people to plant their own gardens.
You can follow her progress on line at Macomb Gardens and Greenspaces — Sarah Carter-Wallace | CW Copywriting. Thanks Sarah and good luck. We look forward to seeing the book!
