It was a lovely day to do a field trip to the Clinton Macomb Public Library. President Larry Neal called the club to order in the Library’s wonderful meeting room at precisely 12:15 p.m. The Pledge of Allegiance recital was lead by Karan Bates-Gasior. The club then sang the national anthem. Bill Patterson gave us a prayer of thanksgiving. Valerie Miller read “The Four-Way Test.”
Lunch was catered by Zuccaro’s. We were served lemon chicken, bow tie pasta salad, sausage with peppers and onions, green beans, salad, rolls and cookies. A very fine meal.

ROTARIAN OF THE WEEK VALERIE MILLER

RECOGNITION
Eric Pierson did the recognition. Valerie Miller was recognized for her excellent speech as Rotarian of the week. However Eric was perplexed as to why Valerie couldn't remember “The Four-Way Test” without reading it off the banner. $2 fine.
Julie Huttenlocher has a new house up north. It cost her $5.
Bob Lee was fined $2 for writing a bulletin last week that Eric thought was erroneous.
Paul Woodring was fined $3 for showing up at the wrong place for the meeting.
Eric proceeded to give quizzes to those sitting at the tables. The first table couldn't figure out how many Carnegie Libraries were setup. It was a $2 fine because neither the club president or those at the table knew the answer was 2,500. Table 2 was fined $1 for not knowing that Charles Dickens wasn't a librarian. Table 3 was fortunate because Ray Glime knew that Benjamin Franklin founded the first lending library in America. Table 4 did not know that the Library of Congress has 838 miles of shelf space. Another table was fined $1 for not knowing the book that is most often stolen is the Genius Book of Records. The last question was to President Larry who knew the Dewey Decimal system was invented by Melvil Dewey.

LECTURE
President Larry introduced Anne Mandel. She runs the library for the blind in Macomb County. Her clients are people who have trouble reading standard sized print as well as those who are blind or physically unable to hold books. Anne passed out cards which had the braille alphabet, each letter is represented by raised bumps on the paper. Most of the clients get audio recordings mailed to them, in fact now a complete book can be on one flash drive. In a few years the recordings will be transmitted via WiFi. Soon they will even have computer screens that can use braille so the blind can read the screen.
50/50: Was won by Ken Steele, he won $50.
Meeting was adjourned at 1:32 p.m.
