Welcome to Rotary!

President Karan opened the meeting with Joe Casasanta leading us with the Pledge followed by the national anthem. Tom Davies led the invocation. Tina served us a fabulous lunch of chicken, potatoes, beans, Caesar salad and dessert. Karan had to leave so Chuck Dib stepped in the president’s shoes and headed the balance of the meeting.

PRESIDENTIAL ANNOUNCEMENTS

  • Don't forget to bring candy for the Trunk or Treat. Donations will be accepted by Nancy Dedenbach.
  •
  • The district Foundation Dinner is being held at Fox hills on November 2. Cost is $60 per person.

GUESTS

Mashell Carissimi introduced our guests: Ray Opezzo (former member), Liz Vogel (former member) and Stephanie Middlestead.

CELEBRATIONS

Birthdays were handled by Ellen Lysik. No club B-days, but president-elect, Chuck Dib has a spouse birthday. There were no flowers to distribute so we pretended and Piano Man Gary bought a simulated posy for Tina and I believe Ellen chipped $2, for someone, and Mashell paid $2 for our guest Ray Opezzo.

MUSIC

Ken Steele led music with “My Gal Sal” and “Sing Rotarians.” The club does much better with “R-O-T-A-R-Y!”

RECOGNITION

Julie Huttenlocher was chomping at the bit to take the floor for recognition, but let Don Carnaghi announce the 50-50 for the fundraiser, and Larry Neal requested potential recipients as beneficiaries for the fundraiser.

Ken Steele ‘fessed up $3 for political incorrectness for the song “My Gal Sal.” Julie nailed her dad for his feeble efforts at a timpani accompaniment. Trips were expensive: Val Miller paid $2 for Banff, Larry Neal paid $5 for 12 days in Portugal, and Stephanie Mirabile chipped in a few bucks for Seattle.

Eric Pierson called out Don Carnaghi for pulling a “Murphy” at the golf outing, when Laura got a bottle of wine and it didn't get paid until Eric's brother (Tim) stepped up. It was only $5, but I know Don will take care of Tim Pierson. Liz Vogel cost all Clinton Township residents $2, and everyone who had the pleasure of being seated with Ray Opezzo paid $2. Sarah paid $5 for her TV debut on Fox News.

PROGRAM

Our former member Liz Vogel who is the Assistant Supervisor at Clinton Township presented a very informative talk on the upcoming 2020 census, which will take place next March and April. It is so important to respond to the census information because the state receives federal funds to the tune of $18,000 per person based on the census data and it also determines Congressional seats. There are five phases to census - Education / Awareness / Motivation / Reminder / Thank you. The challenge in the census is getting the kids and seniors counted for various reasons. Hence the Census Bureau is actively engaging children in the five-part process. Be sure to complete the census when you receive it. It can be done online or hard copy. Thanks for an interesting presentation, Liz and good to see you again!

50-50 was won by Eric Pierson. He needs it. His son just got his driver's license!

Please bring in Halloween candy to Nancy Dedenbach for the Trunk or Treat event in Mount Clemens.
