PRESIDENT'S ANNOUNCEMENTS
A friendly reminder, the October 22 meeting
is at the Italian American Cultural Society at 12:15 PM. T
he night time tour of the Discovery Center
has been postponed until after the first of the year.
Please remember to wear any Rotary Polio
shirts if you have one to honor World Polio Day.
· People of Action Spot: Today Valerie highlighted Bob Cannon, who agreed to step in for our guest speaker.
· People of Action follow-up: Tara's Walk: Turning Point's annual walk was virtual this year. However, four intrepid Rotarian women made it physical. Stephanie Mirabile, Julie Huttenlocher, Karan Bates-Gasior and Val did a 5K and raised $200!

· Christmas Party on Dec. 10: Will we meet Gowanie's 50 minimum, when we only get 25 for our meetings? Will have to wear masks. Or should we downsize to an evening dinner at IACS? What are your thoughts? An email will go out to everyone. Please respond yea or nay to going to Gowanie, or a different venue.
· Polio Signs at Entrance: October is polio month. Bring cash to the next two meetings to contribute to a basket being passed around for our polio contributions.
· Gently Used Shoes: Go through your closets and bring gently used shoes next week to a charity who is collecting them.
· Lastly, Honored Guests: Rotarians entering our meeting were either directed to a table with a balloon centerpiece or the other tables. Turns out the honored people were Rotarians with 25 years or more service in the club. They were Bob Lee, Glenn Burton, Julie Huttenlocher and Tom Davies. They were given special pins. There are other 25 plus year Rotarians in our club, but they didn't come.
From Valerie Miller: “Thank you for the 25-year pin. That was super cool.”
From Julie Huttenlocher: “We are so lucky to have you as president. You are awesome!”

RECOGNITION by ROBERT LEE
Robert began by outing his sister through asking for recent out-of-town travelers to
stand. She recently went up to the UP (with her brother) and had a lousy time: $3.
Eric Pierson came upon a baby bear while he was hunting up north and got the hell of Dodge, hoping Mama Bear did not see or smell him: $2. He was also fined for not knowing where Pierson Lake is, $2.
Stephanie Mirabile had a better vacation, to Jackson Hole so she got fined $5. Larry
Neal was punished for going to his cottage in Cheboygan only because he wasn't able to do the bulletin, so Bob had to sub: $3.
Also, Robert noticed Larry's President pin was larger than his president's pin – well, suffice to say Larry's pocket was $2 lighter.
Bob asked who put up the polio signs outside. Ed Mastry raised his hand, but Ken Steele got the fine, $2. Go figure. (Robert has a strange sense of justice.)
From Julie Huttenlocher: We raised $89 for World Polio Day. We will be doing it again next week too.
Robert then moved to the Clinton Township table. Scott Chabot could not answer the difference between a mayor and a supervisor, $3. Bob spotted the printed literature Bob Cannon had passed out and Scott again, $2, for advertising, though someone said they were props.
Lastly, Glenn Burton paid $5 for his fashionable neck gaiter that said B.S., which Glenn said stood for bold statement.

Bob Cannon, Supervisor, Clinton Township
Introduced by Mary Bednar.
Bob grew up in St. Clair Shores, graduated from Wayne State University. He was a 25-year career educator with the Utica Community Schools, teaching business and computers. He never wanted to be a trustee and certainly never a supervisor. But he was asked to run for trustee, so he did and won. He saw a lot of crooked people in Macomb County. He decided to change that culture or get out.
Clinton Township has become a wonderful place to live, work and play. Just witness the Partridge Creek Mall development. New things coming are the splashpad at the historic park, the Gold Star Monument, dedicated to families who lost a child in the military, and two hospitals who are enlarging their footprint.
Bob is always working on ways to get money for roads. Unfortunately, townships do not get state money for roads, owing to Rule 52, enacted in 1952. At that time, most people lived in cities. It was thought only the farmers lived in rural areas and they had tractors to get by on dirt, gravel roads. How things have changed, except the powerful interests in the cities will not let go of their perk. Still, Bob does not let that deter him.
There will be patching on Quinn Road; Kelly Road and 15 Mile Road and Penrod: 18 Mile and Hayes to Clinton River Road.
The folks in Rivergate, Dunham and River Point would not play ball so they'll putting up gates.
We are so grateful to have honest, hard-working public servants like Bob.
