Welcome to Rotary!

President Karan rang the bell to start the meeting. Amanda Parka led us in the Pledge, followed by Tom Davies making the offering. Amanda also led us in “The Four-Way Test.” A culinary delight of breaded chicken, green beans, potatoes, salad and dessert were enjoyed by all.

Jeff Furest hosted a seven-minute video for the 100 Gala and offered a bit of Rotary history as an inducement for all to get involved. Fabulous trips have been arranged, with a golf extravaganza featuring Nancy Lopez. She was one of the finest players on the LPGA Tour and will be attending the Gala. Step up, become a sponsor, and you could be having dinner with Nancy. We are still looking for a corporate sponsor for the outstanding golf package. Nice promo Jeff!

PRESIDENTIAL ANNOUNCEMENT

Don't forget the District Dinner at Fox Hills. See Karan if you are interested.

GUESTS, FLOWERS & MUSIC
Guests were introduced by Scott Chabot. Mary Anne Demo, John MacArthur and Tracey (didn't get her last name - sorry) were all serenaded with "Glad to see you here at Rotary." Ellen Lysik disbursed flowers for anniversaries: 58 years of bliss for Cecilia Moloney, 24 years of faithful duty to Rotary for Julie Huttenlocher. The balance of the flowers were auctioned to Tracey from YMCA from Steve Krankota, Keyboard Gary for Mary Bednar, Ed Mastry for Gloria Murray for the fabulous job setting up the wine tasting event at the Anton Art Center. Ellen bought a flower for Julie Miller and Chuck Dib bought two flowers for the guests. Music was led by Ken Steele with a rendition of “The Band Played On.”

SUNSHINE REPORT

Steve Krankota was happy the sun was shining, and Karan is no longer taking any meds for her MS. Congrats to you Karan!

Ken Steele paid $3 for a bad song.

PROGRAM

Chuck Dib introduced our guest speaker, longtime resident and friend John MacArthur. He presented an outstanding historical perspective of the Packard Proving Grounds in Shelby Township where we once hosted a President's Ball. John's grandfather, Fred MacArthur was an employee there and there were numerous photos from the past and present showing the old campus versus the newly upgraded facility.

The grounds are home to what is known as the fastest two-and-a-half mile oval track in the world. The buildings are under constant renovation are listed in the National Registry of Historic Buildings. The plant not only dealt with automobiles, but with aviation and maritime activities. Now the facility is used to host events in the former repair garage. As an FYI - the first Packard was built in 1899. Excellent and informative program, John - Thank you!
