SPEAKER AND PROGRAM
Anthony Lewis from community outreach for the Macomb Public works talked to us about water projects in Macomb Township. We discussed that Candice Miller is the public works commissioner. She accomplished a lot of goals that were set in 2018. Some of these included:
- 400 miles of open draining
- 526,000,000 gallons of rainwater stored
- 50 draining maintenance projects started
- 16 grants totaling $5,000,000
- 1 "fatberg" removed
Among many others, Public Works is responsible for Rainwater/wastewater management around the County. This was accomplished with open and closed drains. We discussed that most of the open drains are north of them 59 and the closed drains are mostly self of a 59 with exceptions.
Some of the major projects that Candice Miller's trying to finish to clean out the drains include:
- Kukuk drain - clearing overgrowth and the drain
- Dunn drain - clearing to prevent rising water in the surrounding area
- Middle branch of the Clinton river cleanup
- They even pulled out a toy car!
- Current projects include:
- Sterling Relief drain
- Built in the 1960s
- $1.8 million grant from the EPA
- 5,000 treat these, plants and shrubs replanted
- They created a butterfly breathing area to combat the loss of butterflies
Chapoton retention basin in St. Clair Shores opened in 1968. This is a combined waste and storm drain. Working uncontrollably released to maintain a better control of the amount of water and prevent overflow

The Rotary District 6380 Annual District Conference is your chance to come together with other district club members, friends and family to celebrate a successful year of good works that our 53-club district has achieved under the amazing governorship of Jane McManus!
This year our governor and her committee has decided to break out of the norm and present a wonderful two-day event with incredible speakers and an out-of-this-world boat ride down the Detroit River! Be sure to bring your boat shoes or flip-flops and have fun with your fellow Rotarians across the U.S. and Canada district!
Governor Jane is so excited about this event that she is asking all clubs to have representation! She wants us all together to celebrate the conference theme of "SACRIFICIAL LEADERSHIP" and give us all info on how to further grow our clubs and ask ourselves "are you ready to succeed?"
