On another beautiful winter day in Macomb County, President Larry Neal called the meeting to order at 12:15. Ryan Murphy led the Pledge of Allegiance followed by the national anthem, and Steve Krankota rounded out “The Four-Way Test.” Tom Davies was asked to give our invocation before we lined up for our weekly lunch consisting of sausage and peppers, green beans, a beef wellington-like dish which seemed to be received well by all, salad and dessert.
While the club and its lovely little guests continued to enjoy their lunch, President Larry started with his presidential announcements.
He thanked yours truly for hosting the last board meeting and proceeding to tell the club of that meeting highlights including:
acceptance of new member Mashall Carissimi
recommendation to the Foundation that Turning Point completed the application for the 2019-20 District Grant in an amount of $2,500 for the continuation of the joint project with Care House
$750 for RYLA attendees
President-Elect Karan has graciously agreed to preside over our next two meetings

GUESTS AND VISITORS
Kelly Allen announced our guests and visitors today. We welcomed our young guests Dominik, Amanda Carroll, Nooreen, Alexis, Makayla, Rachel, Addisen, Hannah, and their teachers Sarah Lemanski and Jen Clyne from Graham Elementary.
After singing to some adorable elementary school kids, Gloria Murray was charged with flowers assisted by Patty Kaufmann. Eric Pierson bought one for Chuck for helping him solve a problem with pasta salad, Chuck bought one for Mark Zuccaro for some excellent counsel, Larry Neal for Karan for running the next two meetings, and Gary for Stephanie Mirabile.
Speaking of Stephanie, she led us in our music choices today with her first selection “This Land is Your Land.” We got through the first verse ok and then there was some uncertainty about a second verse. Larry made a presidential decision and cut us off at the first verse. “Viva le Rotary” rounded out today's stirring vocal rendition and we quickly moved on.
There were no sunshine reports or goodwill today.
Mark Zuccaro was up next for announcements and recognition.
Mark quickly raised money for our future endeavors by hitting up all of us who were without our Rotary pin. Mark next praised Larry for breaking ground on the newest library in Macomb County and dinged any Macomb residents $1 for the benefit of this new location.
Tom Davies was Mark's next target as he reluctantly paid $4.99 for what Tom felt was not the longest delay in returning a president's gavel.
Kelly Allen's inability to control the weather and building maintenance issues cost her $2 as our meeting last week couldn't be held at the Pankow Center because of extreme cold and building problems. And speaking of the weather, those that had snow days were charged 50 cents for each day off. Super Bowl winners had their wallets lightened by $4 and losers by $2 for illegal gaming penalties. Thanks, Mark, for a job well done with this week's recognition.
Kelly Allen introduced our program this week, “Leader in Me.” Leader in Me is based on Stephen Covey's 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Each child took turns telling us what the 7 habits are and we can remember them by picturing a tree with the roots for the first habit to Be Proactive, the trunk and tree represent the next five habits to Begin with the End in Mind, Put First Things First, Think Win Win, Seek First to be Understood, then to Understand and Synergize. The top of the three represents that last habit which is To Sharpen the Saw.
Each student discussed one of the habits while showing pictures of themselves at their school putting that habit into practice. The students asked us to ponder a few questions and use those question to create a vision statement.
Gary Felts, Bill Furest, Karan and Ellen Lysik were kind enough to share their vision statements with the students. The students then shared an added and final habit of Find Your Voice. Some of the students shared what their favorite habit was and why. We are fortunate to have some great future leaders in our community with this program being taught.
The question came up, “why don't all schools teach this program?” It's an expensive program that many schools can't afford and some use grant money to implement in their schools. These youngsters were happy to share that they are trying to help others learn these habits, especially little brothers and sisters and even some of their own parents Thank you, Kelly Allen, for another great program.
Larry asked young Dominik to help him draw the winner of the 50/50, and Mary Bednar was the lucky recipient of $34. Madison rang the bell to end our meeting at 1:16.
