Kelly Allen purchased for guest Anna Geikas and Eric Pierson purchased a “bromance” flower for Jeff Furest for the good times had … “adult time” (there may have been other words; however, I will keep it clean!)

Second song: “All Hail to Rotary” (Side note: I have to honestly say that my table was pretty on key with the singing today, I was glad to be part of it!)

RECOGNITION WAS DONE BY ERIC PIERSON
Paul Woodring was charged a $1 finder’s fee. For what? I have no clue. This whole “catch-every-word-and-every-person-being-fined" thing is harder than I thought” (Jessie)
Bob Cannon was fined for his “business” trip $2.
Bill Furest was fined, at first $3, but through a suggestion negotiation by Bill of $2, he still ended up paying $3. Bill came to the IACC last week; however, didn't hear or realize that the meeting was held in the next room over and went home.
Jeff Furest was fined $5 for hurting President Larry's feelings. Larry has been asking for volunteers to run for President and Jeff decided to
wait until Larry was gone to make his presidential announcement.
With remaining time Eric decided to quiz at random. The first was myself, the youngest in the crowd (I am choosing to take this as a compliment.)
The quiz questions had to do with this same day (2/21) on different years. Mine was 1972 (I think.) I didn't know the answer and asked if I could phone a friend since my dear friend Chuck Dib was shoving his red flower in my face. The answer was China and it cost me $1 to use him as a reference and it cost Chuck $1 for helping. I paid Chuck's fine and told him to consider it a birthday gift from me.
Next was Ray Glime whose question had to do with something from 1916. The answer was the Battle of Verdue or Verdone, Ray was fined $2 and Glenn Burton, because he corrected Eric on the enunciation of the battle, was charged $1.
Kris Howell answered her theater question correctly and because Sam D'Angelo decided to test his luck with correcting Eric, he was also charged $1.
Jeff Furest was questioned. No clue what the question was; I can't write
that fast, but I do know he answered correctly and was not charged a thing. Nice job Jeff.
Lastly, Eric was really looking for Mike O'Connor but since he was not at the meeting, he chose the closest thing to a medical doctor, Art Niederkohr, for the last question. The answer was a dental doctor (hence why he was looking for Mike O'Connor) and because Art answered with “medical doctor,” he was charged $3.
PROGRAM/ GUEST SPEAKER
Larry introduced our guest speaker, Wes Berry, who is a West Bloomfield Rotarian and author of a new book titled “Big Things Have Small Beginnings.”
Wes got his start in Detroit and built a $60 million-dollar international business from his family's small florist shop that began in Detroit.
Throughout the presentation, Wes shared stories of how our mind can play tricks on us. Using examples of phrases that we've heard all throughout our lives such as “Think outside of the box.”
According to Wes, there should be no box because the minute we say the phrase we
are automatically prone to think about the box.
Other interesting examples were given with the game of golf. Wes asked each of us how many, when on the course and see the water, say to themselves “I will not put my ball in the water.” And then the ball ends up there. Why? Because we are bringing attention to it.
With these little tastes of focusing points, we were each given a card to write down a wish on the back of, put in our wallets, and not look at. The wish is instructed to not be too detailed and we each need to believe that the wish will work in order for it to actually work. According to Wes, your subconscious will help propel you in the right direction. TRY IT. You'll be surprised what will happen … BUT … you have to be willing to do what it takes to get there.
At the end, Wes dedicated each of us a free paperback copy of his new book with the hopes that we would then make a donation – not to him – but to Rotary. Wes' new book is selling on Amazon and has been on Amazon's best seller’s list since it first came out in December. The book is $11 for the paperback version and has sold over 4,500 copies thus far. Because we are part of such an amazing group, Valerie Miller made the announcement that we raised $245 dollars to be donated to Rotary in honor of this new book. Before Wes concluded he had just one request: If you like the book, please write a review and if not, please don't write a review!
