-
- December 10 Christmas party rearranged. It is now December 17 possibly at Gowanie Golf and CC. Possibly not if less than 40 people RSVP. Then . . . if less . . . we will all go to a restaurant. If less than two, then we will have hamburgers in Val’s basement.
RECOGNITION by NONE OTHER THAN BOB LEE
Bob tried to get a REAL rah rah for President Val but failed a few tables. (How
come? Cat must have had their tongues or they were caught off guard.) The table that cheered the loudest got fined $1 each. (Maybe other tables knew that was coming!) Backwards fining?
Asking the President of Rotary International’s name Dave Gerlach? $2, Don Carnaghi? $2, Paul Woodring thought he knew . . . but didn’t $2, Val Miller finally came up with the right answer but spelled it wrong so Glenn Burton paid her fine $2. It’s Knaack. You just have to get the knac of it.
Mary Ann Hosey only one daring enough to go on a trip last week $3.
Everyone with no pin and/or badge paid $2. (Good luck collecting that.)
Bill Patterson $2 for chiding Bob Cannon.
How, why, and who changed the Rotary rule on recognition? Bill Lee. In the 1960s fining got a bit high due to Bill Lee paying a $100 fine. After a few months of outrageous fines, members ruled to limit fining to $4.99
SPEAKER - DUSTY WELSH from the DISCOVERY CENTER
Mary Ann Hosey introduced our speaker. Dusty Welsh is interim director for the Discovery Center in downtown Mount Clemens. (No she was never Fr. Welsh’s housekeeper.) Dusty has worked for the Mount Clemens DDA, Director of Events and Programs with MACOMB Chamber of Commerce and runs the 12-step startup builder online program supporting women startup entrepreneurs.
With not only COVID and building malfunctions, The Discovery Center has had a difficulty getting its feet off the ground. They have moved across Cherry Street in Mount Clemens and will be utilizing all the adjacent vacant buildings. Five different popup exhibits will be coming soon, each in their own storefront. They are partnering with Cranbrook Institute first to bring an archeological lab for three sessions a day, 5-10 children per session. Upcoming 2021 plans are for an aerospace exhibit, Robo Challenge, summer star gazing, closing the street for a world life exploration festival.
Funding is done thru grants and (just received $100,000 grant) events and entry fees. Memberships will not only get you into The Discovery Center but also Cranbrook, DIA, and Ann Arbor Children’s Museum.
50/50
Kim Jarvis was yelling “pick mine! Pick mine!” And so Mary Ann Hosey reached down in the 50/50 jar and lo and behold whose name did she pick? Kim Jarvis. Kim won something less than $100.
