Speaker - Kelly Allen for L’Anse Creuse Foundation

The foundation is a separate entity from the district. The purpose is to raise funds for various projects for the schools. They give out teacher mini grants. Giving out $15,000 the first Friday of December. Last year the music teacher got $$ for his classroom, the computer room got a 3D printer, and a younger class got a balance ball. They also give out scholarships. All teachers fill out a request application for a grant.

Funding comes from various events like: the boat regatta - students race cardboard boats in the school pool; family movie night at each school football field once a month; Mom-to-Mom sales bring in $$ from over 200 tables of Moms selling.

Second speaker - Rotary Dist. Gov. Sparky Leonard
He is practicing to become past district governor! He met our Pres. Karan at P.E.T.S. and praised her for her tenacity (probably due to the fact it took him 7 or 8 times to pronounce her name right!) He spoke on not getting bogged down with numbers of club members. Get people to take the Rotary journey with us. There are lots of business people who can’t make meetings on Thursdays, or lunch. We shouldn’t disregard those individuals. Start an E-Club! There are 1,600 Rotarians in District 6380 by 2020 he wants 2020! He reminded us of the chance to go down to Comerica Park to watch the two worse teams play baseball (Detroit Tigers vs Toronto Blue Jays.) Cost is $60 dinner is two hours prior to game time. Meet Dave Rozsma.
Next year’s conference is in Chatham, Ontario May 8-9.
